加州戴维斯本科怎么样?
UCD is wonderful. I was there 70-71 for my undergrad and returned in the late 80's for a masters degree program along with several visits over the years to visit friends who are grad students or faculty members there still. The campus itself is beautiful – set in the middle of the California wine country (a bit of Napa right next door) – and amazingly well laid out. The academic programs are very challenging, but you will meet some of the most interesting people anywhere if you can deal with some of the oddities that exist at UCD(and everywhere else)in terms of diversity, political correctness etc… Your main social life will be with those in your major as classes are small and you’ll spend a lot of time reading and writing——the exception being some of the larger science and engineering classes where the atmosphere is more “college” like……If you enjoy an intense level of independent study, UCD would be an excellent choice, but note that there aren’t many fraternities or sororities so if that kind of thing is important to you then think again. There is plenty to do around the area though and when you get tired of UC Davis there is always Sacramento and San Francisco nearby. In fact, one weekend not long ago we went to the San Francisco Zoo and on another trip had dinner near the Golden Gate Bridge followed by a nightcap in S.F.
As far as the academics go, I was a psychology major and can tell you that the psych dept. is exceptional in terms of faculty and courses——if you want to learn about human behavior no where else will you find such a wide range of opportunities along with the personal attention you need to succeed in this field. Psychology majors should apply to the Honors Program which involves a yearlong seminar with other highly motivated psych majors from across the university. The seminar helps you define your research interests early on and works closely with faculty members doing cutting edge work in all areas of psychological inquiry. If you decide to pursue a graduate degree in psychology after completing your undergraduate work here, it will be like having a head start on your Ph.D. as you’ve already taken the core courses needed for advanced
